A warm front is approaching and with it will come a little bit of moisture. There isn't much but there may be enough to blanket the state with a dusting of snow. Some towns may get up to 2 inches before it ends tomorrow morning.
This looks to be a quick burst of light snow that should occur between midnight through 6 am.
Today : Cloudy with a high of 41° Winds NE 5-10 mph
Tonight : Cloudy with a few snow showers after midnight. A dusting to an inch of accumulation is possible.
Saturday : Mostly Cloudy with a few rain and snow showers throughout the day. High 42°
Sunday : Cloudy but warmer with a high of 53°. Breezy with winds SSW 10-15 mph
November 27th, 2012 was a pretty historic day in Connecticut. Why? It marked the 2nd time this month that we received snow. It's very rare to have it snow twice so early in the season but this year it did just that. The November 7th Nor'easter brought 12 inches of snow to North Haven which caught many by surprise. Yesterday's snowfall was barely measurable at .3 inches but it still counts! Does this mean we will have an active wintry weather season? Only time will tell.
I was working in Wallingford on Tuesday and it snowed all day there but the temperatures were warm enough that none of it stuck to the pavement. The commute home was uneventful and traffic moved right along. However, if you went to Bethany or Cheshire you were likely to see 2-3 inches on the ground! My friend Greg took some pictures in Bethany and it was a much different picture than here and many coastal Connecticut towns. Our next chance for precipitation is Friday night into Saturday so stay tuned for more information.
On the way to work this morning I noticed some potholes in the road that I had to avoid. Normally pothole season is in the spring, but they can also show themselves in late fall and winter as well. Cracks in the road are filled with water and at night when the temperatures drop the water freezes. Ice expands and helps to make the cracks in the road bigger. Then as cars and trucks repeatedly drive over the road, a pothole forms and grows until it’s a gaping hole in the middle of the road!
Potholes are extremely annoying and dangerous. They’ve been known to cause serious car damage that could add up quickly. You could blow a tire or damage your suspension if you drive over a deep enough hole so stay aware of what’s ahead of you and try to react as safely as possible.
Have you seen any large potholes in your area recently? Contact your local town and let them know so it can be addressed and patched up. You can also give everyone a heads up as to where they are by posting the locations in
I saw some on Blakeslee Avenue in North Haven which luckily isn’t a main road in town but it just happens to be on my route to work in the morning.
Good Morning Connecticut! After a very windy day yesterday where wind gusts were recorded up to 40 mph, today will be less breezy but it will be colder! Highs today will barely reach 40 degrees!
I’ve been keeping an eye on a coastal storm possibility for Tuesday and/or Wednesday. A few days ago it looked like we were going to get rain and wind but the cpu models are starting to agree on a more southerly track which puts us in snow territory. The good news is that there isn’t a lot of moisture expected with this storm. While all of Connecticut will see some white death this week, I think the most will be 3-5 inches in localized areas. There is still time for the storm track to shift and change the amounts and the trend has been in the “less precipitation” category lately. As of right now it looks like a 1-3 or 2-4 inches scenario. The timing of the storm has sped up lately also and right now it looks like the evening commute on Tuesday could be a bit slick so keep that in mind.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the long Thanksgiving Day weekend and finishes up all those great leftovers!
The weather will cooperate for Thanksgiving this year! The November dry spell for will continue through the holiday and we'll see sunny skies with temperatures in the 50's. Overnight lows will be in the 30's.
For those of you who are heading out early on Black Friday, you'll need the jacket in the morning but the temperatures will moderate into the mid and upper 50's by afternoon. Have fun and stay safe everyone!
