There is a Winter Storm Warning for all of Connecticut except for the immediate shoreline until 10 AM tomorrow morning. Tonight and overnight you can expect the snow to change over to sleet and then freezing rain. 2-4 inches of snow is expected in the North Haven area. The northern half of the state should expect 4-8 inches of snow. Winds will be out of the East at 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph possible.
The mixed bag of precipitation will be all rain by noon as the temperatures rise into the mid 40's. There's another chance for some rain or snow on Thursday as a storm could clip us. What once looked like a storm harmlessly going out to sea has started to trend closer.
We are on the eve of possibly one of the most powerful Nor’easters to ever hit New England. On almost the anniversary of the great Blizzard of 78, The Blizzard of 13 will deliver up to three feet of snow to some locations before it winds down on Saturday evening. Right now we have 2 low pressure systems that are going to meet up and combine their moisture to create an epic snowstorm. Get everything done that you need to get done by noon tomorrow. Conditions will rapidly deteriorate as the day goes on.
My prediction is 14"-22" in North Haven. If you want to make a prediction for your town just comment on the article.

At my home in North Haven, I picked up 3.75” of snow before the precipitation changed over to sleet. As of 12:30 PM, light rain was falling and the temperature was just above freezing at 33 degrees. Some towns are still below freezing and roads are very icy. Please drive carefully today.
This morning I took a ride and took some pictures as well as a short video. Start the slide show to check them out.
Here's a video I recorded while driving around town this morning. Snow drives are a lot of fun when the roads aren't that slippery.

2 feet of snow. we won't get that. :)
After a pretty uneventful and mostly dry first 2 weeks of 2013, Connecticut will see some more snow on Wednesday. Showers tonight will change to snow overnight across the state. In North Haven, you can expect 1-2 inches of slushy accumulation from this system. Most of the state should receive 2-4 inches of snow. The locales closer to the shore will see a longer duration of rain and therefore will receive less.
Streets will be slick for the morning commute tomorrow and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some delays and possible cancellations of school tomorrow.
I don't expect the snow to start much before midnight so if you have anything you need to do tonight, I wouldn't cancel those plans!
Christmas morning becomes even more magical for our children if we get to see snow falling and a nice coating of white on all the trees and grass. So the big question is will we get a white Christmas this year? The answer is leaning towards yes as of right now! If you are inland the chances are much higher that you'll see about an inch or two of snow Christmas morning.
For the shoreline it will depend on the temperatures. If the temps are above freezing the snow won't stick and the white Christmas will be a no show. The shoreline may also see rain mixing in with the snow in the morning which would also limit the accumulation.
Please feel free to tweet me some photos Christmas morning if you received snow in your locale. My twitter handle is @ctweathergeek.
November 27th, 2012 was a pretty historic day in Connecticut. Why? It marked the 2nd time this month that we received snow. It's very rare to have it snow twice so early in the season but this year it did just that. The November 7th Nor'easter brought 12 inches of snow to North Haven which caught many by surprise. Yesterday's snowfall was barely measurable at .3 inches but it still counts! Does this mean we will have an active wintry weather season? Only time will tell.
I was working in Wallingford on Tuesday and it snowed all day there but the temperatures were warm enough that none of it stuck to the pavement. The commute home was uneventful and traffic moved right along. However, if you went to Bethany or Cheshire you were likely to see 2-3 inches on the ground! My friend Greg took some pictures in Bethany and it was a much different picture than here and many coastal Connecticut towns. Our next chance for precipitation is Friday night into Saturday so stay tuned for more information.
Good Morning Connecticut! After a very windy day yesterday where wind gusts were recorded up to 40 mph, today will be less breezy but it will be colder! Highs today will barely reach 40 degrees!
I’ve been keeping an eye on a coastal storm possibility for Tuesday and/or Wednesday. A few days ago it looked like we were going to get rain and wind but the cpu models are starting to agree on a more southerly track which puts us in snow territory. The good news is that there isn’t a lot of moisture expected with this storm. While all of Connecticut will see some white death this week, I think the most will be 3-5 inches in localized areas. There is still time for the storm track to shift and change the amounts and the trend has been in the “less precipitation” category lately. As of right now it looks like a 1-3 or 2-4 inches scenario. The timing of the storm has sped up lately also and right now it looks like the evening commute on Tuesday could be a bit slick so keep that in mind.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the long Thanksgiving Day weekend and finishes up all those great leftovers!
