On the way to work this morning I noticed some potholes in the road that I had to avoid. Normally pothole season is in the spring, but they can also show themselves in late fall and winter as well. Cracks in the road are filled with water and at night when the temperatures drop the water freezes. Ice expands and helps to make the cracks in the road bigger. Then as cars and trucks repeatedly drive over the road, a pothole forms and grows until it’s a gaping hole in the middle of the road!
Potholes are extremely annoying and dangerous. They’ve been known to cause serious car damage that could add up quickly. You could blow a tire or damage your suspension if you drive over a deep enough hole so stay aware of what’s ahead of you and try to react as safely as possible.
Have you seen any large potholes in your area recently? Contact your local town and let them know so it can be addressed and patched up. You can also give everyone a heads up as to where they are by posting the locations in
I saw some on Blakeslee Avenue in North Haven which luckily isn’t a main road in town but it just happens to be on my route to work in the morning.
